wireless skype
I currently use a cheap logitech USB headset for chatting in skype on my Macbook Pro or iMac, it’s wired, and a bit clunky.
I’ve been meaning to do something about this and go for some kind of wireless solution. I’m going to kill two birds with one stone, and get myself a bluetooth over-ear earpiece.
I’ve settled on the Plantronics Voyager 510, after reading a few blogs and sites on success with pairing on a mac and using the unit as a general audio in/out device. This is good news. I’ve also heard good things on the quality of audio, which is important.

How am I killing two birds with one stone? Well I can use it for skype/ichat/whatever on my mac, and also for my mobile phone.
I’ve never been a fan of the ‘look’ of having one of these things attached to my head, and I promise not to walk around -everywhere- with it on mine… I’ll see how I go and will report back with my luck when the unit arrives (it’s on order).
I’m looking forward to seeing how this goes, I’ve been contemplating it for a while but the whole Lt. Uhura thing put me off.
Agreed… I’ll probably stick to using this thing in the car, at work, at home, etc. (not whilst walking around at the local shops) haha. we shall see.
checked out your blog btw, nice one!
Okay, well the Headset arrived, and it works very well. It paired to my Macbook Pro easily, and I was able to skype call a mate and chat for … however long. Sound is clear, he said I sounded clear. I could walk around in the room, but walking out of the room I started to get static/crackling. I figured this would be the case, it’s not really a problem.
I bought the headset for it’s wireless ability, and portability (carrying a headset around in my laptop case was terrible).
It paired to my Samsung D600 phone and works perfectly there too.
Thumbs up for under $100 AUS
