I hacked a friends Apple TV not long ago, a version 1.1 It was going great for a while until it was accidentally updated by the wifey… damn.

So I spent half of yesterday hacking their v2.02 unit. it’s getting a little more complex as Apple works to prevent people from hacking them. I applied much the same technique as I did for my v2 ATV however a little more tweaking was required to get USB working correctly.

In the end after applying my own knowledge to the hack. I ended up using a neat little util that someone has put together to make it just really easy to enable USB.. check it out here

Check this out.. Run Fedora 9 (and other LINUX’s) right off a USB stick. Plug it in, boot it up, instant mobile desktop, with the liveusb-creator

I tried it, it works, it’s super cool. Mind you I tried it on three machines, only one worked. I guess it depends how nicely your PC’s BIOS plays

Flock have announced version 2 beta of their browser which is now based on Firefox 3 technology. I just installed it. It’s faster (i can tell), and apparently more secure). Visually not much change, but hey, I like the newest stuff.

We’re having a bit of a Gas supply crisis here in WA (Western Australia).

Not too long ago, a gas line at a gas facility blew out. (I don’t know the details because I don’t watch or read the news, because it’s MOSTLY all bad news, no thank you)

Initially, it was said that there would be no affect on the states gas supply, and that everything was all good.

Now I’m getting email’s here at work telling us to shut equipment off if we’re not using it and try to conserve electricity and gas!

I’m happy to help where I can, and as I get older I’m becoming more aware of the environment, our natural resources, etc.. (esp with the rising cost of fuel!)

I’m keen to do my part, so I’ve started shutting my work PC down before I go home, set my work a/c to a more ‘economical’ mode, use my desk lamp less, etc.

I’ve even started looking a little more closely at hybrid vehicles (elec cars).

I wonder how I can be more efficient at home. I’m curious. I reckon it would be kind of cool and maybe even fun to set aside one night per week at home where we do not run any luxury appliances. Perhaps I could call it ‘no power night’. Could setup some candles, not use the TV or computers, just relax with some wine, maybe play some cards, have fun with my baby girl, spend some quality time with my wife…

Maybe everyone should have a ‘no power night’ once a week?
