its friday!

How much do I like Fridays? A LOT. Let me tell you, there’s no better feeling than FRIDAY.

This week feels like it’s taken a while, I think it’s because I haven’t really done anything important, special or fun.

Whats the go for the weekend? Well tonight, nothing, relax time! might watch a movie. Tommorow it’s all go, car to wash, and a trip to prep. I’m heading to Bunbury on Sunday morning (early) for some off-road r/c racing! It’s the WAORMA Bunbury Interclub! I’ll be running 4WD 1/10 Electric. fun stuff.

Enjoy your weekend!

manhood is gone!

This blog isn’t just about nerd shit…

Check this out. Our pal Max (aka Black King) recently took a trip to the vet to have his goolies sorted. Poor bugger. We didn’t really want to get him fixed, but it was recommended by so many people (including the vet). Hopefully in a couple of months when his psycho’ness has thinned out, he’ll be easier to train :)

check out this shot that the paparazzi recently got of him exiting a night club…

Skype 2.6 Gold released

My skype just told me there was a new version available and asked if I wanted to download it. Excellent!

Here’s what Skype have to say about the latest version which fixes some bugs including the echo’ing issues with using built in mic/speakers on notebooks:

“Skype 2.6 for Mac is now available for download.

You’ve written many blog comments, forum postings and support tickets, all asking what we were going to do about the echo when making calls with built-in microphone and speakers. May the brand new Skype 2.6 for Mac that we put out today answer your question. We’ve significantly improved echo cancellation in calls and overall call quality should also be better than ever before, with or without a headset.

We have also been very serious about fixing bugs and annoyances you’ve pointed out. For example, you can now edit the phone numbers of your SkypeOut contacts and Skype recognizes the timezone change of your computer for chat. Take a look at the release notes for the full list of fixed bugs.

But wait, there’s more! Not only have we spent time on improving quality, but we have also managed to squeeze in brand new features. We’re especially proud of call transfer which was launched on Macs first. We hope you like transferring your ongoing calls to people in your contact list and other new features introduced with Skype for Mac 2.6:

Join public chats.
See when others are typing with typing indicators. (See that busy pen on the screenshot?)
Call Skype Prime services to learn new skills or have fun.”

Samsung and OS X

Not long ago (when OS X 10.4.9 update was released) I noticed that the boys had added iSync support for my Samsung D600 mobile phone. What does this mean? It means I can now sync my contacts and calendars with my phone. So cool! a heap of other phones were added also!

In case you didn’t know, you can also SMS right from your address book through your mobile phone. Or, if your a cheap skate like me, use Skype instead!

Simple Invoices

Have you ever wondered if there was an appl available, that was free, that would take care of your Invoices?

Well, have I got something for you?!

http://www.simpleinvoices.org/

Simple Invoices is a web-based mySQL/PHP driven application that allows the user to create, edit, manage electronic invoices. Some features include export to PDF/XLS/DOC, reporting on billers, customers, product sales… and more!

I’ve been using Simple Invoices for some time now, and have started getting more involved in the project.

It’s rather ’simple’ to install, and easy to use. I highly recommend it!

Ryper Hobbies “540 Classic”

t2topdown.jpg

On Sunday I raced in the annual Ryper Hobbies “540 Classic”, an r/c event where each racer must use the same ’spec’ motor(s).

I won this event last year, and was sceptical of how this year’s event would go.

Having consumed copious amounts of alcohol the night previous, I managed to haul my arse to the track the next morning and race. (with thumping head in tow)

Qualified 2nd fastest, in the finals I placed 4th, 2nd, then 1st. The worst final dropped, and the 1st/2nd was enough for me to win the event, 2nd year in a row.

Luck? perhaps!

macbook pro squeeky!

I phoned up DigiLife yesterday (apple reseller) to enquire about bringing in my macbook pro for a service. It has a squeeky spacebar and it’s driving me up the wall. (sounds like nothing, but trust me it’s so damn annoying)

They said the turnaround time is about 7 days. 7 DAYS WITHOUT MY MACBOOK PRO. This is my life, my work, everything. What the -hell- am I going to do?

I was told over the phone if it’s simple, and a matter of reseating the space bar, it could be an overnight job. Otherwise a whole new top plate (integrated keyboard, trackpad, top, etc) needs to be replaced. The part would need ordering, therefore the wait. *sigh*

how am I going to play with photobooth?:

wireless skype

I currently use a cheap logitech USB headset for chatting in skype on my Macbook Pro or iMac, it’s wired, and a bit clunky.

I’ve been meaning to do something about this and go for some kind of wireless solution. I’m going to kill two birds with one stone, and get myself a bluetooth over-ear earpiece.

I’ve settled on the Plantronics Voyager 510, after reading a few blogs and sites on success with pairing on a mac and using the unit as a general audio in/out device. This is good news. I’ve also heard good things on the quality of audio, which is important.

How am I killing two birds with one stone? Well I can use it for skype/ichat/whatever on my mac, and also for my mobile phone.

I’ve never been a fan of the ‘look’ of having one of these things attached to my head, and I promise not to walk around -everywhere- with it on mine… I’ll see how I go and will report back with my luck when the unit arrives (it’s on order).
